Bass fishing is one of the most popular fishing sports. Bass refers to a rather big and varied species of popular game fish. The striped bass, the Black seas bass, the Seas bass and the White Bass are just some of the common species found. The Largemouth Bass survives both in summer as well as winter because they are cold-blooded and their body temperatures remain the same throughout the year. Bass are very hardy fish and they can survive in temperatures ranging from 35-80 degrees. The ideal temperature is however between 65 and 70 degrees. The Largemouth species are ambush specialists. You will find plenty of these around trees, docks, logs, stumps and large rocks. So, the first step to successful Bass fishing is to identify areas that are most suitable for the Bass to survive and flourish. Weather is the decisive factor in bass behavior. Bass fishing is at its best when the weather factor is constant.

On a bright sunny day when the water is clear and has a cold front, bass tend to go deep down. At such a time, fish tight to a shady place like a tree or a dock. In spring, when the water temperature is falling, you can expect a slow day. If the water temperature is rising, you can expect more action. Bass needs certain things to survive. It needs lots of food, good cover and ideal temperature. Look for these conditions and your bass fishing will be successful. Map the lake appropriately and divide it into sections. Then fish each section separately till you find the hangouts for bass. Mark that area on the map. Go on to the next location. Keep all necessary information in a journal.

For tackle, begin with one casting rod and one spinning rod. The weight of the rod and the reel should be equal. The line and the lure should be given special attention too. Buy a strong line that is thin enough to fish among brush and knicks. The lures you use should be designed to excite the fish to bite. For this, it should closely mimic the kind of food that Bass love. This may change according to the seasons or the time of the day. For instance, in the early morning and late evening times, lures that imitate noisy bass baits are the ones to use. Change your tactics depending upon the area you are fishing in. Bass feed by sound, sight, vibration. The more attractive your bait, the more your chances of success. Usually Bass fishing is most active in the Spring and in the fall. Of these, fall is perhaps the better of the two. When the temperature falls, the Bass gets more oxygen. The cooler temperature causes the bass to feed more often by raising their metabolism and making them more active. At such a time, the bass will school together and bite just about anything that is thrown at them. When the water starts cooling, the plants will start dying off. This makes the bass go in search of deeper waters where the plants may still be standing.

The Redeye bass, so called because of their blood red eyes, are found in the streams of the drainages from the Black River in Alabama. The Suwannee Bass is abundant in Santa Fe and the Suwannee River. The Guadalllippe Bass is a native of the San Antonio, Colorado and the Brazo rivers. The Shoal Bass can be found in the Georgia, Florida and Alabama. These are just some of the varieties of bass found in the various regions of the US. Of course, the sheer number of Bass available is itself one of the most wonderful things about Bass fishing.
